Hammer Dave, Today I looked at our resources and 8 made the team sheet. I picked JWP ahead of Pacquetta as Pacq has done nothing, and when we first brought JWP he was played in an advanced role and scored some goals. Soucek as CB - tbh, I think Todibo is rubbish, I’ve never been a fan, so, we need someone to head the ball from crosses so that’s why I selected Soucek. Fabs, I think he’s better than the other 2 gk’s. It’s not a great team, but there is pace in midfield and a proper forward up top, the others are square pegs in square holes. Many will disagree, and that’s fine.

Brooking apart from JWP (who shouldn’t be anywhere near the squad let alone the team) I think your team has some merit. I’d replace Paqueta with Mougassa but agree with Souchek replacing Todibo and Fabianski has that wise leadership quality we need. I’d go:

I’m sorry but can we get a bit of perspective here. We have a new manager who has walked into a complete sh@t show! In my mind he is not our long term manager but hopefully someone who can get us out of the poo that others created.
He had one really decent game, one really poor loss to Arsenal and then one absolute catastrophe due to player selection and playing those players in their wrong positions. Hopefully everyone’s confidence isn’t dented so much that a team selection similar to the first game may bring about a better performance and result.
Whilst I agree Paqueta isn’t playing as a £50 + million player should be performing. We can’t use him as a scapegoat for that dreadful game where he has the ability to be a game changer. Yet we are arguing about where souchek should be playing. He should playing with the under 21 side!
And as for JWP don’t get me started. I don’t like digging people out, but Brooking you complained that some people were too critical of your comments all I can say is you bring it on yourself because you are so out of touch!

My thought process about Souchek is that he’d at least make sure the back line stay in formation. His lack of pace is a problem but then again how quick is Igor? I neglect to consider Todibo as he is possibly the worst defender I’ve ever seen in the PL. As for Paqueta it’s not just one bad game is it, he hasn’t played very well for 2 years, yes he has all the tricks and flicks but this isn’t Copacabana Beach and he shouldn’t be considered first name on the team sheet every week, he isn’t up to or up for the fight

I can’t understand what Areola has done wrong. He’s had some reasonable games recently and shouldn’t be dropped IMO. Fab is now a good back-up keeper, but his reactions are now too slow and that’s why his contract wasn’t renewed originally. Soucek? He’s too slow and can’t put two passes together. OK, he can head a ball, but the greater percentage of football is played on the deck. He’s definitely no defender. Paqueta is still a better midfielder than Fernandes or Magassa. And as for playing JWP! After everyone agreed he was a waste of space (clearly recognised by Nuno) to even consider him is ridiculous. We must remember, Leeds have some really pacey players ; something we obviously lack. I think the starting XI Nuno picks on Friday will be a good guide as to his ideas with what he’s got and trying to predict that is almost impossible.

Dab, Paqueta has had some really bad games over the last few years but he is always looking forward tries many a pass that will split a defence (doesn’t always come off. But he has played well in numerous matches over the last 2 years .
Much as I like Souchek he is to slow and cumbersome and can’t pass, if you were going to play him somewhere new then try him up front as he knows how to score.
Fernandez and Magassa are new and young so hopefully will come good but have both done nothing so far and Fernandez needs to up his game as he cost £40 as stated above Paqueta is still playing better than them.
I would play Potts and Magassa as the holding midfielders in a 442. Then play play Paqueta, Fernandez Bowen and Summerville further forward. It’s difficult to work out as our main striker is injured again and our main backup can only play limited minutes so bring Wilson on for the last 30 minutes.

Areola has played well recently in terms of shop stopping but I think his lack of ability to play with his feet is a concern. Everytime the ball is played back to him I sense panic. He doesn’t seem to trust his back four and nor they him. I just see Fab as a bit of a calming influence. I here what you’re saying about Souchek and I’m just probably clutching at straws there however it will take a lot to convince me about Paqueta as I’m struggling to think of a time he had a constant run of good games. As for JWP I think we all agree that that one needs to be left off the pitch until hell freezes over! ?
