I have a bad feeling about Dier. Never rated him and always thought he got where he did because the competition in that position for England was poor. I know things are looking bad for us, but this stinks of desperation. Dawson he ain’t.

Tin legs, hear what your saying but everyone was saying the same when we signed Dawson, like “he’s too old, too slow etc” Dier has played at international level and even captained England, he has leadership qualities which none of our defenders at the moment have, we need all the help we can get, he also plays in midfield so could quite easily sit as a defensive midfielder if need be, at the moment it’s not working and we’re not in a position to attract top top players, to get players with prem experience and hit the ground running is a must, we haven’t got the games left to bed players in, we are in the brown stuff big time and if we can get Cresswell as well then that would be a massive bonus and I think the fans would start to feel a little optimistic about getting out of this mess which would filter down to the players and give them a massive boost, hopefully ?

Tin if you are saying you thought Dawson was a good buy when we purchased him, then I think you would have been the only West Ham fan to do so. You better do the lottery tomorrow ? Everyone I know thought, as I did, that he was a dreadful buy but as Stevie says he turned out great. I know the emphasis should be on younger players with future sell on value but at the moment we need anyone half decent who doesn’t actually object to playing for us.

It is bizarre this season as thus far 3 of the best signings throughout the league have been Callum Wilson, Granit xhaka and Dominic Calvert Lewin all of whom I would have said avoid at all costs

No, I’m not saying I wanted Dawson. To be honest, I didn’t have a view either way. However, I have always thought that Dier was grossly overrated and thought he played for England because the competition in that position was terrible. As for him playing in midfield — forget it.

What I am saying is that I don’t rate him. Not even when he was at the ‘top’ of his game. Do we want him as captain? NO. If we need a player who isn’t very good just for his leadership qualities, we already have one in Soucek.

Also, I think Todibo would make quite a good captain. He can’t do any worse than Bowen. IMO I think the captain’s armband may well cost him his place in the England squad for the world cup.

Soucek would make the best captain from our squad. He bleeds for the club.

He needs to be placed front 3rd, or back 3rd - NOT central midfield.

Paqueta has gone. Always flattered to deceive after a strong first season. Once he started believing the hype about himself, his performances faded.

In a side like City, he could have been a megastar, but with our lot…

I like Souchek and he would make a good Captain but it would be like how England Cricket picked Mike Brearley in the early 80’s when he couldn’t bat, catch or bowl. Souchek isn’t the player he was sadly

Chelmsford, I have never played a video game, if that’s what “Football Manager” is. And you are very selective about reading what I have written about Soucek for some reason. Read what I have said. For your benefit, again, I think Soucek would make a good captain, but I don’t think he’s a good enough player for the Premiership. He contributes nothing to the midfield because he’s not creative and cannot pass. His only use in the Prem is that he periodically pops up to score and that is because he’s prepared to “throw” himself at the ball.

That’s why he sustains so many cuts and bruises. He’s a lovely bloke and is very loyal; I like him, but he’s a Championship player at best. This was evident in the QPR game when I said he had a good game. If we get relegated and he stays, he gets my vote for the captaincy. Now, apart from me saying he’s not a Premiership player, where am I wrong and where am I always slating him? Give it a rest.

Chelms, the problem is we need to improve. As much as I like Souchek, and if we go down it’s a totally different conversation by the way as he would be my pick for Captain by a mile, he isn’t a starting 11 player in this team in this situation.

I wouldn’t start him ahead of any of the 3 young lads in midfield nor would I start him up front ahead of Taty, Bowen, Pab or Summerville. Could he play at CB, possibly but I’d rather we bought in better CB’s than we have at the moment
